The Digital Trailblazer Award will be presented at Dig X Subsurface 2025

A digital trailblazer paves the way for others, creating a substantial impact and serving as a precursor to further digital innovation and value creation in the subsurface geoscience community. At Dig X Subsurface, we recognize and celebrate these exceptional individuals who dare to push boundaries, think outside the box, and lead the way for their peers as trailblazers driving the subsurface geoscience community into a digital future.

Criteria for nomination

A visionary thinker
Nominees should stand out as visionary in the digital subsurface domain, presenting groundbreaking and innovative perspectives while challenging traditional "silo-based" approaches within the subsurface community.

An interdisciplinary mindset
Demonstrating an interdisciplinary mindset, showcasing their ability to transfer knowledge across different fields.

Thinking outside the box
Draw inspirations from other domains (e.g health technology, as demonstrated by the previous winner) beyond their expertise.

Value creation and impact
The technology developed should already have demonstrated significant value or high impact or have the potential for significant value creation/impact in the future.

The Dig X Subsurface program committee evaluate the nominations and we invite the geoscience community to vote for their favorite. The program committee will take into account the results of the vote, and select a winner based on a combination of the vote and award criteria. The winner is announced during the conference dinner on 30 December 2025.

Previous Winners
Robert B. Williams, Senior Biostratigrapher at NPD, was the recipient of the award in 2023

Matt Hall, Scientific Programmer at Equinor, was the recipient of the award in 2024
