New digital tools and applications can be catalysts and a competitive edge in better decision-making, evaluation, and improved inter-disciplinary subsurface understanding, in our efforts to to meet the energy demands of tomorrow!

Digitalization of the subsurface is a rapidly developing field. We are witnessing significant progress in embracing technology opportunities. Yet, there are still challenges and language barriers addressed.

At DigXSubsurface, we lay a foundation for trust in new tools, data, and applications through the presentation of case studies, key learnings, and best practices to develop next-generation subsurface workflows.

The Digital Trailblazer Award will be presented at Dig X Subsurface 2026

A digital trailblazer paves the way for others, creating a substantial impact and serving as a precursor to further digital innovation and value creation in the subsurface geoscience community. At Dig X Subsurface, we recognize and celebrate these exceptional individuals who dare to push boundaries, think outside the box, and lead the way for their peers as trailblazers driving the subsurface geoscience community into a digital future.

Criteria for nomination

A visionary thinker

Nominees should stand out as visionary in the digital subsurface domain, presenting groundbreaking and innovative perspectives while challenging traditional "silo-based" approaches within the subsurface community.

An interdisciplinary mindset

Demonstrating an interdisciplinary mindset, showcasing their ability to transfer knowledge across different fields.

Thinking outside the box

Draw inspirations from other domains (e.g health technology, as demonstrated by the previous winner) beyond their expertise.

Value creation and impact

The technology developed should already have demonstrated significant value or high impact or have the potential for significant value creation/impact in the future.

The Dig X Subsurface program committee evaluate the nominations and we invite the geoscience community to vote for their favorite during the conference. The program committee will take into account the results of the vote, and select a winner based on a combination of the vote and award criteria.

The winner is announced during the conference dinner on 02 December 2026.
